Newsletter May 2024

In April there were terrible floods from the Sanya river which passes up to 500m from the Kikuletwa church in the village of Sanya Station. In fact, there were in all, five floods within the space of two weeks.

The first one flooded as far as the church and the worst was the second one, which came as deep as four feet and quite a number of houses collapsed completely and everything that people owned was washed away.

These houses were made of mud bricks which couldn’t withstand the water and inadequate foundations.

These houses have very little in the way of foundations. Five people who come to church lost their houses and nine in the village. Others, whose houses were not damaged, were flooded and lost much.

Thankfully in our village no one was killed or injured, though many have died in floods in the whole country.

We received a gift which enabled us to buy and donate through the church, cups plates, cutlery, cooking pots, school bags, books, buckets and mattresses, for people in the community.

A number of the shopkeepers have helped by lowering their prices.

Shoes and clothes have also been donated by local people. As they have no food, a donation of maize was also made. We are still thinking of the best way to rebuild houses, for whom and how.

Deo, the church leader has been amazing in his demonstration of love.

He was out in the middle of the floods checking on people to see if they were ok.

He has taken in to live with him at least six people who were flooded out, as well as his own family.

In church, many testified to the Lord’s goodness and saving them as well as much thanks for the Lord’s provision. In another area a friend of J4,

one of our workers, lost 3 children and his wife died in hospital.

He is left with a 9-month-old child, having lost everything.

J4 led him to the Lord.

We are very grateful for those who have given donations.

These will all be put to use.

The church is doing well . All Simendo people now come and Kotema takes the youth group of about 16 with another young man Elphace, who is a medical student at KCMC.

The farm now is in good hands and the people have understood that it belongs to the church.

It is slowly starting to produce and the huge damage put right.

Steve struggles with Parkinsons, becoming more shaky but keeps close to the Lord and in good spirits.

Anne has many responsibilities!
