sorry
On the water front on the dam, we received an estimate for a plastic liner and new pump of $23,000 US dollars. This is way too expensive and they would only guarantee it for 1 year. So we decided to go a diiferent route, thanks to the many generous gifts we have received, we have been able to put in 3 phase electricity and buy a much larger, more efficient pump for the borehole.

At the same time we are increasing the area of drip irrigation considerably as this will be much more efficient, less labour intensive and much more time can be spent on observing and checking closely for diseases and bugs to improve the quality of the crop. This will also help us to become self sufficient, break even and even make a profit, instead of always looking to external sources. We have only had a small amount of rain and the river that feeds the irrigation channels to feed the dam is completely dry, as is the dam. Since I wrote first we had a bit of rain and the dam has a bit of water at the bottom, so the birds are loving the water. We have been asked to supply vegetables to 3 schools about 3 times a week, to help improve the diet of the students. These are the same 3 primary schools which we found a sponsor for feeding the students.

There is still maize in the silos, which should be enough to help the needy up till about July. The lack of rain in the short rains, means that in the next couple of months, the drought is really going to hit. Often after a drought, there will be floods, which washes away more topsoil as there is little or no vegetation.

Dr. Puly continues with her dispensary/palliative care unit continues, but she has just lost a close praying partner.

Abraham and Salome keep very busy with the farm, the church, feeding the poor from the maize stores, and he is often called on to settle disputes in the area.

We continue to have many visitors! Currently we have a Tanzanian student staying who is studying for a degree in physiotherapy. He used to teach Steve kiswahili; a delightful man. Up till July we had 2 mature ladies studying anaesthetics for a year. They were a big blessing.

sorry
